They will grow almost anywhere in sandy soil. I learned everything i know from the book 'Opium for the Masses - Harvesting Nature's Best Pain Medication' by Jim Hogshire. Great book. Rev. Storrs-Turner was the editor. It also published books condemning the opium trade, such as Joshua Rowntree's The Imperial Drug Trade and Benjamin Broomhall The Truth About Opium Smoking.
